Reading back over that last entry, I'm amazed at how my standards for English speaking have fallen since we've been here. I'm all, "Oh, yeah, they're really high level", but there's not one sentence quoted there that's actually correct (okay, maybe one. Well done, Hans).

I'm so used to hearing broken or incorrect English now that I think sometimes I actually don't hear it at all. I do correct kids most of the time when they say "_____ is Korean!", meaning "is speaking Korean", but I think often I don't even notice any more because I'm so used to it. Ditto on "Teacher, ______ spell is what?" and "Teacher, eraser me no!" and so on.

And I even speak a little Konglish myself...I say "sign-pen" for "felt-tip pen", "name-pen" for permanent marker and "sharp" for "mechanical pencil" almost without thinking. Oh, and "aircon" for "air-conditioner", even though that's not really an issue these days.

This is terrible. Okay, Lunar New Year's Resolution: tighten up on the Konglishy. Sure, this means we'll never get through any of the assigned work because I'll be stopping every five seconds to stop someone from saying "Teacher, my is pinished!", but whatever.
